Design Achievement
The Wilson Center for Intercollegiate Athletics is renowned as one of the nation's top athletic buildings. Spanning 76,000 square feet, it serves as the athletic offices for 12 out of Tulane University's 17 varsity sports. Recognizing the need to keep pace with other universities, Tulane University Athletics embarked on an upgrade and expansion project for the department's academic center. The result is a remarkable new facility that significantly enhances Tulane's academic workspace for over 350 student-athletes. Equipped with the latest in learning technology, the facility includes notable features such as the Oremus Family Study Lounge, named in recognition of Alan Oremus for his seed commitment to the project, a spacious multipurpose classroom, private study rooms, and staff offices. These additions solidify Tulane's commitment to providing a state-of-the-art academic environment for its student-athletes.
Scope Summary
DLR Group was responsible for implementing a range of non-sport-specific graphics and installations in the renovated space of the academic center. Upon entering, visitors are greeted by a prominent feature that showcases the name of the center, incorporating the Angry Wave logo into the glass and wood materials. The open study area is filled with illuminated Tulane word marks and Angry Wave logos, creating branded elements that can also serve as backdrops for photos and social media sharing. The walls are adorned with multiple framed academic achievement posters, strategically placed between huddle spaces and offices. Each classroom and study space showcases custom art prints that embody the Tulane brand, tastefully framed and displayed. In the large classroom, display cases on the walls showcase vintage pennants from various sports and sporting events throughout history. DLR Group provided experiential graphic design services for this project.
